      The Archaeological Museum of Brindisi

      The Brindisi museum, named after Francesco Ribezzo, an illustrious archaeologist and glottologist (1875-1952), has numerous large rooms in Piazza Duomo, and offers visitors six sections:

      – the epigraphic, with inscriptions in Latin, Hebrew and Greek – the statuary, with the splendid Roman statues found in the historic centre of Brindisi – the antiquarium, with the two sections comprising the Civica-De Leo and Marzano-Gorga collections (Apulian and Attic vases, trozzelle, coins, etc.) – the prehistoric, with the excavation materials found in the province – the numismatic, including coins from the classical, medieval and modern ages – the bronzes of Punta del Serrone, with the two restored statues of the consul Lucio Emilio Paolo and the civis romanus in togatic attire, portrait heads, female images and the other bronzes found during the underwater excavations of the summer of 1992.
