In Novoli the traditional living nativity scene is renewed after many years. It is an itinerary that is wonderful. Inside an old quarry of Lecce stone, close to the underground oil mill at the "Corte", the characters that populate the imagination of the little ones and not only stand out.
The visual effect evokes a Renaissance painting by the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch.
The nativity scene is divided into four parts that wind around the former quarry. In the first part we find workers of the land (pasta, bread, etc.), and we read a large letter "P", to represent the products themselves, but also the concept of preparation, production, passion, in the name of simplicity and essentiality, concepts that are the foundation of the entire journey, underlining the word prayer.
The second part represents the direct workers of the land and its animals (farmers, shepherds, breeders, fishermen), and where a large letter "A" is installed, to represent the concepts of love for one's work and for the products, accuracy in their administration, attention to their growth and development, highlighting the word adoration.
The third part represents the world of childhood, populated by children and young people dedicated to play and fun, with particular attention to the games of the past, in order to recreate the typical atmosphere of the ancient village that is usually felt in nativity scenes. Here we find a large letter "C", to represent the concept of complicity, collaboration, company, cohesion, placing the emphasis on the word heart.
Finally, the fourth area hosts the ox, the donkey, the Mother, Saint Joseph and the Child Jesus. Here we read the E (the last one, to finally form the word “peace”); the “E” to represent the concept of essentiality, objective and ultimate goal well represented by the Celestial Family, and that of eternity.
The Living Nativity Scene of Peace of Novoli takes place in the Madonna di Lourdes Center and can be visited on January 25, 1, 5 and 6 (from 5.30 pm to 8 pm).
