Every year the “U’Carnvel” Association of Locorotondo organizes the parade of floats through the streets of the city. The departures of the floats are always from different places, they gather on Fat Thursday in via Sant’Elia, on Sunday in via Cisternino and on Fat Tuesday in via Alberobello. The chosen themes range from fantasy to current events, with a particular eye on the world of cartoons.
The Carnival aims to give value and importance to the little citizens, through colors, music, floats and costumes. The associations, U’ Carnvel di Locorotondo and its float designers, who, together with other hard-working and interested citizens, take an active part in the scenography and the float arrangements; L’isola delle piccole stelle, Mancini e dintorni and the Azione Cattolica Sezione di Locorotondo who coordinate the little ones by taking care of the costumes and pertinent accessories.
The Locorotondo Folk Group animates the audience through dance; the C.A.S.A. delle Abilità Speciali holds a workshop for children, aimed at ensuring and developing manual and social sense. The associations Fuori di Danza and Arte Danza enliven the evening with dances and choreographies. During the parades, the representative mask of Locorotondo, the “Monacidd”, also parades, elected symbol of the town by the idea of a young citizen.
